Easy and Inexpensive Ways To Add Fall Decor To Your Home

As the cool, crisp days of fall come to an end, we're looking for ways to best savor every moment of our favorite time of the year.

With Thanksgiving two weeks away, there's still time to bring the changing colors and natural elements of fall into your home and incorporate them into your decor. Here are 6 easy and inexpensive ways to add fall decor to your home, many of which will transition easily into the upcoming winter holidays:

    1. Bring the outdoors in. Add some pieces of nature to your usual home decor. In addition to the ever – popular pumpkins and apples, try adding other things like branches, sticks, leaves, stones, gourds, vines, berries, even cotton stems. All of these items are inexpensive, most can be found right outside your front door, and they all bring the natural beauty of autumn right into your home.

     2. Set the tone with color. Fall is the perfect time of year to change up your color pallette. Take your cue from Mother Nature and incorporate reds, oranges, yellows, greens, browns, and even shades of purple into your usual decor. You don’t have to use all of these colors; try taking just one or two of them and mixing them into your everyday vignettes. Some colorful branches displayed in a vase (or in this case, a vintage crock), a pile of pretty pumpkins, even unexpected items such as as stack of vintage books can really liven up a space and bring in the colors of fall.

    3. Bring on the texture!  Combine the natural elements listed above with woods, metals, and fabrics to create visual interest. A metal serving tray filled with fresh flowers, a wooden crate displaying pumpkins, branches and leaves, and a functional wooden bench piled with cozy pillows and a plaid blanket for those cool, autumn evenings. Speaking of blankets…

    4. Add cozy fabrics. Blankets and pillows made from flannel, faux fur, cotton, suede, or knits immediately set the mood for cuddling up on the sofa on a brisk autumn night.  Don’t forget your mug of hot apple cider and a good book!

    5. Seasonal Scents. Nothing says "fall" like the scent of a burning candle or a pumpkin pie baking in the oven. Scented potpourris, candles, fresh flowers, and baked goods all bring to mind autumn and its glorious bounty.

    6. Ambience. Set the mood with a fire crackling in the fireplace, or the soft glow of candle light. There aren't too many things cozier than the glow of soft light during the shorter, darker days of fall.

Whether you do all of these things, or just a few, you’ll be ready to welcome fall and enjoy the change of seasons inside your home. What are your favorite ways to incorporate the season into your decor?

Thanks so much for stopping by, and happy fall, y’all!
